Light up the Lake – Scheduled for Christmas Eve 2013

Join your neighbors and make a special evening even more memorable on Lake Tyrone with the 2nd Annual “LIGHT UP THE LAKE” on Christmas Eve event! We had a great start last year with over 350 luminaries placed in the bay.  We would like to invite everyone to participate this year.  This is a great opportunity for our Lake Tyrone community to come together in the joyous spirit of Christmas on the most revered evening of the year.

Luminaries in the Bay, 2012This year we will start a little earlier and begin to “LIGHT UP THE LAKE” at 5:00pm on Christmas Eve.  “It was a great experience to be out with our neighbors with their children and grandchildren, enjoying fellowship on such a special night, creating an amazing effect on the lake shore.  Our family can’t wait to repeat the experience with more of our neighbors this year!”, says Elizabeth Herhold.  Elizabeth is organizer of the event.

Wouldn’t it add to this special night if we all did our part to make the lake look like this picture of the Tyrone Bay on Christmas Eve 2012.  Imagine looking out and see not only what you have done but your neighbors have done as well on this very joyful occasion.

For specific instructions, please visit www.doityourself.com/stry/make-holiday-luminaries or just Google search “luminaries” or “paper bag lanterns”.  Elizabeth’s family put out 100 luminaries covering not only their lake front, but two elderly neighbors and to vacant homes at a cost of less than $25.00.  They used a pack of 100 (very inexpensive) regular brown lunch bags, (reusable) kitty litter (20 lbs. for $3.59), and bought candles at Michael’s (using a 40% coupon available on their web site).  Their candles stayed lit from 5:00 pm until after mid-night when they got home from church.

If you take pictures, please upload them to the Event gallery.  If you have questions or need any help please contact Elizabeth Herhold elizherhold@comcast.net
